Frequently Asked Questions

What are water cooling towers used for?

Water cooling towers are used to cool water for use in industrial processes or that has been heated up by a process and needs to be cooled before being returned to the water source. By recirculating the water in this way, the most efficient form of cooling can be achieved with the minimum amount of water usage.

How does a water cooling tower work?

A water cooling tower works by utilising the process of evaporative cooling to remove excess heat from industrial processes, power plants, and other applications.
Hot water enters the cooling tower and is sprayed over the heat transfer pack. The water comes into direct contact with air and is cooled through evaporation. The warm saturated air then exits through the top of the tower while the cooled water falls into the bottom of the tower to be returned back to the process.
The continuous circulation of water through the cooling tower ensures that the excess heat is efficiently removed, allowing industrial processes and equipment to operate at optimal temperatures. The evaporative cooling process in cooling towers is highly effective in dissipating large amounts of heat, making them crucial components in industries that generate significant heat during their operations.

How do you build your water cooling towers?

Our Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) panels are hand laid before being formed into a smooth sleek tower. GRP is strong, extremely light and highly versatile, hence a really good material for the body casing of the tower. Our highly skilled production team with over 30 years of experience carefully handcrafts your cooling tower to your specification with great care and attention to detail. We procure components such as the fan and motor from our UK suppliers and assemble the finished tower in our yard in East Ayrshire, Scotland prior to shipping.

Do you supply any other types of water cooling/chilling equipment?

We do. We supply Dry Air Coolers as well as Adiabatic Coolers and associated spares

Dry Air Blast Coolers are an alternative to Water Cooling Towers (when the application and water temperatures allow). They are of a closed circuit, sealed water design and provide the benefits of reduced maintenance costs on both the cooler and the equipment it serves.

Our range of Dry Air Blast Water Coolers is designed for commercial and industrial fluid process cooling applications. We offer vertical or horizontal airflow in either flatbed or V and W arrangements, enabling us to provide the most cost-effective cooling solution.

We can also supply Adiabatic Water Coolers, another alternative to a traditional cooling tower in that it is a combination of a dry cooler with an adiabatic evaporative pre-cooling section.

Can you help me decide which product I need?

Yes, we can. We will discuss your needs with you and, depending on your requirements and your location, we may visit your premises. Watermiser is experienced in assisting you with selecting the right equipment for your particular needs. Please contact us on [email protected] or phone us on 01560 321394

What is the difference between a water cooling tower and other options?

A cooling tower cools by evaporation where a dry air blast water cooler and adiabatic cooler are closed and sealed circuit coolers.

How sustainable are your products?

We offer a lifetime guarantee on our GRP tower casings and we have pledged to be net zero by 2030.

Can you offer spare parts and servicing?

We can offer a full turnkey project from design to installation or cooling tower replacements.

The level of engagement with clients is dictated entirely by the clients’ needs; we won’t over-sell you something you don’t need.

Do you install the cooling equipment?

We can offer a full turnkey project from design to installation or cooling tower replacements.

The level of engagement with clients is dictated entirely by the clients’ needs; we won’t over-sell you something you don’t need.

How do I contact you for a quote?

The easiest way would be to call the office on 01560 321394 or email [email protected]

Do your products help me with the management of legionella risk?

Our products work hand in hand with water treatment suppliers where all our towers fully comply with UK Health & Safety HSG274 Part 1 and the ACOP L8. We are members of the Legionella Control Association and can advise you on your requirement for managing the risk of legionella.

Where are your cooling towers manufactured?

We hand-build our cooling towers in our dedicated workshop in East Ayrshire in the West of Scotland. We procure components such as the fan and motor from our UK suppliers and assemble the finished tower in our yard. We have recently been approved for use of the ‘Made in Britain’ status for our towers.
